The castle of pearls is home to a holy relic: the eternal fire. But one day, the mysterious necromancer Arkhton appears with his army of undead, bent on claiming the relic that promises him new power. But the soldiers of Pearl Castle and the men and women who inhabit it are ready to defend their faith and their sacred relic, without which all life and light are irretrievably lost. In Stronghold Undead, one player takes on the role of Arkhton, while the other player plays the defenders of the pearl castle. As soon as Arkhton's army of undead breaks through the walls of the stronghold before the eighth turn, which signifies the sunrise through which Arkhton and his army crumble to dust, Arkhton takes the relic and wins the game. The defenders in the castle of pearls must hold the walls and survive the darkest night they have ever seen. Attackers and defenders begin each round by stockpiling supplies and making preparations. The attacking necromancer casts his dark magic using powerful spell cards. However, each of his spells gives the defender more time to make his own preparations. The defender receives hourglasses, which he can use for various actions within the fortress or to defend against the attacks of the siege weapons and the undead on the castle walls. After the attacker's maneuvers and the assault with ranged and close combat as well as the regrouping of the defenders, a round ends. If the attacker succeeds in breaking through the defensive line on at least one section of the wall, he enters the interior of the fortress and captures the relic. If the walls withstand the onslaught, a new round begins.
